ServingDementia Care Class
Somang Care Class provides one-on-one care as well as various group activities (i.e., art, reading, music, etc.) for Korean American seniors who are experiencing memory loss or early-stage dementia to gain confidence and improve emotional stability. Somang Care Class is the only care program that offers all services in Korean by bilingual staff and experienced volunteers (i.e., retired nurses) who have extensive knowledge of American healthcare services and dementia care resources and in parallel, are familiar with Korean culture and ethical belief.
We have two classes in Southern California:

Dementia Education
We work with the Alzheimer’s Orange County and Alzheimer’s Los Angeles to regularly educate people on information, prevention, and treatment of dementia. We hold seminars at organizations and churches to provide the education when requested. We also provide volunteer training for care classes and support groups.

Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group
Women are disproportionately affected by Alzheimer’s dementia. This burden comes in two forms: (1) women are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s dementia than men. Nearly two-thirds of Americans with Alzheimer’s are women; and (2) approximately two-thirds of dementia caregivers are also women.
Caregiver Support Group provides an opportunity for family caregivers to speak about their personal experiences, learn from others who face similar challenges, share resources, and encourage each other. However, due to limited English proficiency, most of the Korean-American senior caregivers are not able to join existing dementia caregiver support groups.
To the best of our knowledge, Somang Society is the only organization providing Korean-speaking dementia family caregiver support groups both in-person and virtually via ZOOM.
Anaheim Location: Every second Wednesday of the month 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Los Angeles Location: Every first Thursday of the month 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Please contact the Somang Society office to participate in the Korean speaking support group. Our contact information is at the bottom of this page.
